Detox@Home Service commenced operation on 21st August 2023
Detox@Home is a new government-led service managed by the Alcohol and Drug Service (ADS). The Detox@Home Service provides alcohol detoxification and recovery support to individuals in the privacy of their own home or suitable residence (such as a residential rehabilitation space), as a substitute for in-hospital care with the support of specialist alcohol and other drug (AOD) clinical staff, peer workers, family, and support persons.
This new initiative consists of a specialised multidisciplinary team providing alcohol detoxification services and recovery support to people in their own homes.
The Detox@Home Program also introduces peer workers into the ADS for the first time to complement nursing and medical expertise in the delivery of this new outreach service.
The new service will improve access to timely, appropriate, and evidence-based managed withdrawal support for clients in both the North (Launceston) and South (Hobart) of the State.
The launch of this new service represents a significant step forward in addressing access to timely and appropriate treatment and recovery programs that align with evidence-based best practices.
Accessing the Detox@Home service is free, voluntary, and confidential.
