St Johns Park Mental Health Facility Project will deliver a brand-new community-based mental health facility providing a range of services to promote successful community transitions.
The new facility forms part of the broader St Johns Park Health and Wellbeing Precinct Masterplan, a 20-year blueprint for the heritage-sensitive revitalisation of the historic St Johns Park into a contemporary health care precinct to meet the public health needs of Tasmanians. A revised precinct Masterplan is currently being developed.
Construction of the Mental Health Facility at St Johns Park is expected to begin mid-2025, subject to achieving the necessary approvals, and will take approximately 18 months to build.
The new facility will offer:
• A 15-bed inpatient unit where people can access intensive mental health care in a residential setting.
• A 12-bed Tasmanian Eating Disorders Service residential facility including a community based intensive treatment day program area and consulting hub.
• A Safe Haven, providing support to people in suicidal or situational distress.
• A Recovery College classroom, providing opportunities for people in the community to improve their mental health, wellbeing, and personal recovery through education.
• Offices and meeting spaces for Child and Youth Mental Health Services (CYMHS).
