In November 2019 Geoff Brennan visited a number of Tasmanian mental health facilities. Geoff has worked in, on and around mental health wards for over thirty years and has had a long involvement with Safewards.
Safewards is one of the actions committed to in Rethink Mental Health: Better Mental Health and Wellbeing – A long-term plan for Mental Health in Tasmanian 2015-25.
The aim of Safewards is to make Mental health Inpatient Wards safer for everybody by:-
- Promoting good therapeutic relationships
- Reducing conflict and containment
- Improving the consumer experience
Geoff spoke to members of Flourish and MHFFTas and we were all inspired by his enthusiasm, commitment and positive reports of Safewards activities in Tasmania.
