What is The Hobart Clinic?

The Hobart Clinic is a private mental health provider that has operated as a 27-bed facility in Rokeby since 1984 and runs day programs at their ‘Mind Hub’ located in Collins Street, Hobart.

The Hobart Clinic provides private voluntary inpatient and day patient services, such as group therapy for adults aged 18 years and over, for mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, drug and alcohol addiction, psychotic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, older persons mental health conditions and personality disorders.

Why is it closing its inpatient facility?

The Hobart Clinic’s Board has taken the difficult decision to close its inpatient facility due to financial unviability, which is a nationwide issue for privately-run health facilities.

What will happen to existing inpatients?

The Hobart Clinic have advised that all existing inpatients have an estimated discharge by mid-October. The Clinic will work with Statewide Mental Health Services (SMHS) and the individual’s treating teams, should any further support be required as either an inpatient or in the community. At this point in time, the Department of Health understands all patients have a discharge plan.
